I went fishing with Steve Schweitzer, author of Fly Fishing Guide to Rocky Mountain National Park (an excellent guide book that now includes a section on tenkara). The fishing turned out to be quite tough due to cold snowmelt. Yet, this tenkara experience was great nonetheless, and we even ran across a tenkara angler on the water.

« Tenkara Diaries – April 26th, 2013 Fish Sign Language – How trout communicate »
Oh, I am anxious to see the Tenkara Diaries entry for May 1. Should be another great short sleeve day. ; -)
I’ve never seen another tenkara angler while out fishing. I did have a conversation with a guy at the lake 2 weeks ago who had seen a guy last summer fishing on an in-state river with what sounded like tenkara gear; long rod, no reel, catching fish.
And a month or so back I happened to find a Japanese blog of a tenkara angler who said he learned to trout fish while living here in WV. Evidence they are out there. Maybe this summer I will have my first on stream encounter with another tenkara angler on a local river.
daniel, more good stuff. with all the rods at your disposal what is your go to rod and is that what you are using in this vid? thanks.
The Ito is my go-to rod and its what I’m using here
