Headed out for a phenomenal afternoon of tenkara fishing. Carried a prototype tenkara rod I’m working on, tenkara line and two tenkara flies I tied before heading out. Shot entirely with an iPhone. There are a couple of tips in this short movie too. This video is 5 minutes long, with a song by Takenobu. Make sure to watch it in HD (click on the gear icon, and then 720 or 1080). Hope you enjoy it.

ditto. one question though, what type of main line are you using?

awesome. it seems easy to see, and i’m sure it will be great addition to the tusa family. also, i really enjoy these vids you make. keep them coming.

  4. Great video! I’m curious–in some shots, it looks like the phone is mounted to you somehow (eg you’re using both hands to unhook a fish, etc.). What is holding the phone?

    • Jason, a couple of times I’m actually using one hand to hold the phone (e.g. the shots where I cast the fly and then hook a fish), one more of those “things to do with your free hand when tenkara fishing.”
And, on a few shots I actually found a good way to press the phone between my knees and get the shot that way. It was risky, as I was not using one of those waterproof cases. Just glad I never dropped it. I have to start using one more often.

    Beautiful fish!

You are developing quite an aesthetic American view, this is a tribute to your devotion to Tenkara. I am happy to see that you are showing how you fish one fly. My old Japanese books and current Japanese Tenkara blogs have competition for my time! Thank you.

I just tied up a few Amano Kebari by hand. The first was hard, but by the third fly, it was pretty simple and fun. Now for the water levels to go down quite a bit around hear so I can try them and the new knot out. I have tried tying by hand before, but using sewing thread made it alot easier.
