2016 went by fast! Daniel does a retrospective on the year that has gone by (the 7th year in existence for Tenkara USA) and looks ahead to 2017 for exciting developments.
Daniel, great to hear your voice again. Thanks for this authentic Happy New Year update and greetings — back atcha. I feel your 2016 ambiguous funk. It was a weird year, capped off by the weirdest US political experience of my lifetime — no matter who you voted for. But I, too, am psyched about 2017 and preparing for lots of fishing on waters new and old with friends new and old. A few gratitudes to you and your team:
Thanks for the great rod sale last fall! It helped me get rods into the hands of a couple new Tenkara fisher people — one in the Midwest new to the adventure of fly fishing, and the other a long-time Western guy who picked up one of my rods on a backpacking trip and is hooked!
Great news about the 2017 summit. Those things have been meaningful to many of us. But events like that are really hard to pull off — low ROI and ROE (Energy!) for you guys. I hope you are able to find some outside help this year so it doesn’t take so much out of you and your team.
Finally, I’m looking forward to the book, but I know first hand how much those things weigh (metaphorically). I’m sure it will be so good to get it done. Funny story: I put the book on my Christmas list for my 80-year-old mother, who has always been my #1 champion when it comes to pursuing my passions. At some point, she got confused and called Zen Tenkara (she’s bought stuff from them for me as well). Sounds like she talked to Karin, who, once she figured out what was going on, had to say, “No….that’s not us. Call Daniel….”
Tenkara has a way of breaking down silos in life and helping people look at the world in new ways, explore new places and approaches. Grateful for your leadership in that.
Hey Steve! I really appreciate you taking the time to listen to the episode and then to write! Look forward to hearing of your good 2017 at the Summit! And, yes, the book will come!
