Dan and I spent this weekend fishing up in the mountains of Western Maine and I caught my first fish on Tenkara, a nice 12 inch rainbow! I also caught my first Brook Trout ever! He is insightful, a great teacher and was very patient, as I lost 3 flies in the first 15 minutes.
Dan had an arsenal of Tenkara USA rods for me to fish with and see which one worked best. I settled on the Sato, and it was perfect for me at the 11’10” height. We fished at Fox Carlton Pond Camps and close by streams. I left with a new Sato that I will use for trout and smallmouth bass.
If you’re new to Tenkara, and want to learn in a relaxed and fun way, I highly recommend meeting Dan and spending a day or two on the water with him. I am so glad I did, I will practice everything he taught me and catch a lot of fish along the way!
